Music & movement help kids learn
Mission to Mars through the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) provides 4th-6th grade students the opportunity to plan and carry out a simulated mission to Mars. This is a true STEAM program including math, science, nutrition, art, music, movement, and teamwork. The 55-minute class will meet every week for about 28 weeks and will be held until a Friday in late April or early May 2024, depending on the date of the Link Up Day. The Link Up Day is a six hour event held at the Albuquerque Convention Center to which families are welcome half-way through to view the children’s accomplishments.

The benefits of games for learning math skills have been well documented. Games provide motivation, create meaningful situations for practice, develop positive attitudes, increase learning, allow children to operate at different levels, provide opportunities for hands-on and interactive experiences, provide opportunity for assessment, and allow students to operate independently as well as in a team.
In twelve 55-minute classes we will be reinforcing multiplication by 3s through 9s, depending on the students' abilities.
Must be comfortable with addition and subtraction.

I teach using the Suzuki Method or classically depending on what the child needs.
With over 25 years of tutoring experience of neuro-diverse children, I will teach your child through games, music, and movement as well as helping with homework.
For the past 26 years, I have been a homeschool teacher and tutor with a passion to integrate math, music and language arts games into everyday learning. I firmly believe that children of all ages learn best through interactive play. My children describe their home education as mostly "just playing games". I homeschooled all of my children through the end of high school.
I have developed a math learning games curriculum, which includes both gross and fine motor activities. I have used this curriculum successfully with many children, individually and in small groups, and in schools. I also enjoy teaching any grade level lab science. I have endless energy for teaching the importance of music.
Additionally, I have been speaking publicly for her entire life and have been a member of Toastmasters since 2016. I have led homeschool classes in public speaking in Albuquerque as well as weekly Gavel Clubs for students to practice speaking and leadership skills.
I have a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in music. I am experienced teaching K-12 math, science, english, and music.
As a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) my passion for teaching children was demonstrated in my qualifying projects: teaching speaking techniques at a high school symposium in Santa Fe and running a Youth Leadership Program.
My passion is getting children/people to understand the concepts, not just "fill in the blanks". I love enabling children/people to recognize the inherent algorithms in even the most basic math and reading. I evaluate the student's overall learning style and the learning style of the moment and freely adapt my teaching method to match. Since I have taught children/people who don't easily fit into the "normal" student description (such as children with ADD/ADHD and those on the autistic spectrum), I have experience individualizing curriculum to maximize learning. I also find it extremely helpful to integrate music and games into my teaching both as an end unto itself and as a tool to enhance learning.
I have tutored people of all ages including teaching adults to use a computer and would be happy to see if we are a good fit!
Every student has unique needs for support. Tell me more about what you are hoping a tutor can do for you, and I will start on a plan to help you get what you need.
